The walled enclosure features several gates; the most beautiful is the Porta di Monte Antico. Facing south, it has a square plan and a pointed arch. It is equipped with projecting machicolated corbels, except for the rear side and the left side inside the curtain wall it is attached to. As a second security measure (in addition to the main door), the tower had a portcullis located towards the inside of the entrance hall: only part of the sliding doorway remains. Just above the extrados of the entrance archway, an illegible coat of arms is walled up. The crenellated crown, although restored, is still equipped with Ghibelline merlons, some of which are equipped with musket slits; it is inserted into a system of corbels and machicolations to provide both thrusting and thrusting defense.
